WISPA Welcomes Next Steps on Gomez, Starks, Carr Confirmations
Washington, DC, July 12, 2023 – WISPA – Broadband Without Boundaries congratulates Anna Gomez, Geoffrey Starks and Brendan Carr on the advancement of their nominations. Each brings years of experience and know-how to the table, which will help America’s vibrant communications marketplace continue to grow and ably serve consumers.
Today’s vote brings the FCC one step closer to “full power,” with all five Commissioners on board. When that occurs, the Commission will have a tremendous opportunity to quickly identify and then roll-out more spectrum for commercial use. American consumers have a near ceaseless demand for licensed, licensed-by-rule and unlicensed spectrum to power their fixed and mobile devices. Rural America, too, knows that wireless connectivity helps communities there thrive and stay on par with their urban counterparts. Having more of the raw infrastructure that connects lives and bridges digital divides in rural, under-resourced and Tribal areas of the country means the small farmer in Mascoutah, IL, can access the same opportunities as the stockbroker in Manhattan, NY. All Americans benefit as a result.
On top of spectrum policy, WISPA hopes the newly composed FCC will also thoughtfully address:
- Where needed, targeted subsidy programs that expedite broadband deployment to unserved locations in a technology-flexible and cost-effective manner.
- Fast and fair access to infrastructure for broadband deployments no matter the location, whether Federal, state, municipal or private.
- And, should they be necessary, laws and regulation that are right-sized for small companies.
WISPA stands ready to help the FCC succeed for the American people and urges the full Senate to approve the nominations of Anna Gomez, Geoffrey Starks and Brendan Carr as expeditiously as possible.
