WISPA Statement on Broadband Grant Tax Treatment Act
The following statement may be attributed to Matt Mandel, VP of Government Affairs, WISPA – The Association for Broadband Without Boundaries:
Washington, DC, February 25, 2025 – Since the pandemic, Congress has appropriated billions of dollars to accelerate the deployment of broadband networks in unserved areas so all Americans, no matter where they live, can get online. Significant portions of that funding are presently taxable, and every dollar returned to Washington is one less dollar available to connect unserved communities.
We therefore commend Senators Moran and Cramer for introducing the Broadband Grant Tax Treatment Act, a pragmatic solution which eliminates the tax on broadband grants so that those funds can more ably meet Congress’ important universal service goals. Connected communities are more prosperous communities, which is the ultimate goal of Internet-for-All.
