WISPA Congratulates Howard Lutnick Confirmed as Secretary of Commerce

The following statement may be attributed to David Zumwalt, President and CEO of WISPA – The Association for Broadband Without Boundaries:

Washington, D.C., February 19, 2025 – WISPA congratulates Howard Lutnick on his confirmation as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce.  His extensive business experience and leadership underscores his deep understanding of market-driven solutions, innovation, and the importance of fostering economic growth—qualities that will serve him well in guiding Commerce and the NTIA.

During his Senate confirmation hearings, Lutnick reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that broadband reaches every American through a cost-effective and technology-inclusive approach for the BEAD program. In particular, his recognition that all broadband technologies—wireless, fiber, satellite, and emerging innovations—must play a role in closing the digital divide is a hopeful step toward making the off-track program succeed for those who lack reliable connectivity.

WISPA looks forward to working with Secretary Lutnick and the Commerce Department to advance policies that strengthen small broadband providers, ensuring that the BEAD program and the NTIA’s spectrum policies maximize their impact and deliver real results for rural, unserved and under-resourced communities across America.
