Kansas Broadband Selects PureWave Quantum 6600 for Rural Mobile WiMAX Network
Network is Planned to Cover 18 Counties and More than 12,000 Square Miles
Mountain View, CA, May 11, 2010 ― PureWave Networks, the developer of high performance, compact, all-outdoor Mobile WiMAX (802.16e) base stations announced today that it has been selected by Kansas Broadband Internet (KBI) as the company’s exclusive provider of WiMAX equipment.
“As we migrate our wireless network from proprietary equipment to more advanced and capable mobile WiMAX technology, we need a solution that is powerful, simple to deploy, easy to maintain and cost effective, all at the same time,” said Lee Miller, President and CEO of KBI. “We field tested the PureWave Quantum against a number of other solutions, and PureWave came out the clear winner in terms of range, capacity and over-all link budget. The end result is that we are now able to deliver such advanced services as streaming video to customers located 7.5 miles away from the base station in a non-line of site environment. We are reaching customers we were never able to serve before.”
The PureWave Quantum family of mobile WiMAX base stations is uniquely suited to the needs of rural operators, and allows them to profitably deliver voice and data services even in sparsely populated areas. Employing six antennas to deliver an unmatched service range of up to 15 miles or more from the base station, PureWave Quantum base stations are designed to be deployed completely outdoors with no need for either shelter or air-conditioning, greatly reducing site deployment and maintenance costs.
PureWave Quantum base stations can operate with or without an ASN gateway, reducing operators’ capital spending while enabling support for full mobile service when the operator is ready to offer it. Moreover, PureWave Quantum base stations operate with standard, off-the-shelf mobile WiMAX CPE, finally releasing operators from the tyranny of expensive single vendor proprietary subscriber devices.
“We are proud to be KBI’s vendor of choice for their advanced WiMAX network” said Gideon Ben-Efraim, PureWave’s Chairman and CEO. “As they expand their service into new communities and offer their customers advanced services, we are pleased to have been selected as KBI’s technology partner.”

Omnicity Moves at LightSpeed to Acquire Second Major Ohio WISP
Rushville, Indiana – April 29, 2010 – Omnicity Corp (OTCBB: OMCY), the Midwest’s largest and fastest growing fixed wireless broadband service provider, closed its acquisition of the network and subscribers of LightSpeed Wireless, covering five counties in Central Ohio. This acquisition is the 10th completed acquisition for Omnicity in the last 14 months driving subscriber count to nearly 12,000 and piles on another $1,560,000 of annual revenue. This large acquisition brings on another 3,600 subscribers and the network covers an estimated 117,000 homes in Central Ohio. Omnicity has racked up a 600% growth rate within the first 14 months of going public in February 2009. Greg Jarman, CEO of Omnicity stated, “The addition of the Lightspeed network and subscribers is a major milestone event for Omnicity. It not only contributes significantly to our operating revenue and cash flow, but also delivers a high quality network and a very substantial build-out opportunity that should allow us to at least triple subscribers and revenue in central Ohio within the next 36 months given the less than 4% penetration rate on the estimated 117,000 homes passed.
The acquisition of LightSpeed’s network and subscribers is the second completed acquisition in Ohio and twice the size of the acquisition of Bright Choice, also situated in Central Ohio, which Omnicity closed 30 days ago. Omnicity plans to press on with its acquisition of WISP networks, subscribers, build-out, and partnering track through Ohio and other Midwestern states at a rapid pace. The acquisition of LightSpeed’s network and 3600 subscribers, together with the 1,500 subscribers acquired from Bright Choice, provides Omnicity with a sizeable presence in central Ohio to complement Omnicity’s core operation in Indiana. Kyle Yoder, President of Lightspeed added, “We are excited to become a part of the Omnicity team in Ohio. We look forward to helping our customers with additional services and growing our network into areas that we don’t cover today.” Omnicity, assisted by its Ohio acquisition partner SZD Whiteboard, of Columbus, Ohio, is negotiating with several more Ohio acquisition candidates, new-builds, and partnerships that it expects to consummate in the near future.

Airspan Receives FCC Certification for upper “Unrestricted” 25 MHz of FCC 3.65 GHz
Only WiMAX Vendor Supporting full 50 MHz in key Frequency Allocation
Boca Raton, FL, December 1, 2009 – Airspan Networks Inc. (Pink Sheets: AIRO), a leading provider of broadband wireless access networks, announced today that it has received FCC Certification for its WiMAX Products to operate over the full 50 MHz of the FCC 3.65 GHz lightly licensed frequency band.
Airspan has received this industry-first FCC certification, allowing U.S. 3.65 GHz operators the use of the upper “unrestricted” 25 MHz, affording them additional capacity, range, flexibility and deployment options.
Airspan’s Software Defined Radio (SDR) technology in the HiperMAX product supports both fixed and mobile operation and has been broadly deployed across the United States and internationally by operators in 3.65 GHz. The feature-rich technology provides the robust and efficient solution required for maintaining successful and profitable business plans.
“Airspan’s ability to define and implement the contention protocol for this FCC certification is a huge deal for operators like us,” commented John Badal, CEO of Sacred Wind Communications. “We are beginning a large deployment of Airspan’s 3.65 GHz solution across New Mexico in support of residential and business users and the additional capacity and frequencies available to us now will speed deployment, reduce total cost of ownership and provide a superior broadband experience for our customers.”
“On the island of Puerto Rico, there are already some 3.65 GHz WiMAX operators and the ability to use the full 50 MHz for our island-wide deployment ensures that we will always have sufficient spectrum to deploy our network while avoiding the potential of interference and spectrum saturation”, commented Fred Mercado, President of World Data Puerto Rico. “We are in the process of deploying the Airspan HiperMAX powered network in anticipation of a Broadband Stimulus award and this additional capability guarantees a smooth and successful deployment.”
“Airspan was the first vendor to supply equipment in the 3.65 GHz band in the United States and this certification is another first, as it unlocks the full potential of this band for our customers,” commented Declan Byrne, Chief Marketing Officer for Airspan. “We have a dominant market share among 3.65 GHz customers in the United States and we are confident that this additional capability will help us grow our leadership position in this market. This announcement is of special importance to our customers who have filed Broadband Stimulus applications dependent on the 3.65 GHz band. They now have the additional assurance that their investment with Airspan is a solid one.”
Airspan provides both Fixed and Mobile Base Stations to the United States and International marketplace operating on the 700 MHz, 1.5, 2.3, 2.5, 3.5, 3.65 and 5.4/8 GHz frequency bands.

Proxim Wireless and NetLogix Partner to Help Organizations Prepare for the Upcoming Stimulus Deadline
Companies Provide Application Preparation Services and Resources; Can Help Prepare Grant Applications Before August 14 Deadline
Proxim Wireless Corporation (OTCQX: PRXM), a leading provider of end-to-end broadband wireless systems that deliver the quadruple play, and NetLogix, a leader in wireless telecommunications services, today announced that the companies have partnered to make available a broad suite of stimulus grant application services and resources for organizations preparing stimulus grant applications in the United States. The combination of free resources and paid services is designed to help organizations identify the best funding options available and to have their grant applications prepared before the stimulus “Round One” deadline, which is Friday, August 14, 2009.
To provide an overview of funding options available to organizations looking to deploy wireless broadband networks, the companies have prepared a “Government Grants Resource Guide”, which can be downloaded for free at Proxim’s site at http://www.proxim.com/learn/library/whitepapers/. This resource provides helpful tips, overviews of the different funding opportunities, and direct links to the application sites and resources.
“Many organizations think that the $4.7 billion in direct stimulus funding is the only funding set aside for broadband deployments, but in reality there are a large number of other funding opportunities as well,” said Robb Henshaw, Director of Marketing and Communications at Proxim Wireless. “This guide provides a helpful overview to ensure that organizations know what their options are, and a one-stop resource for direct access to the pertinent application sites.”
For organizations that plan to apply for the $4.7 billion in NTIA Broadband Initiatives Program (BIP) or the Broadband Technologies Opportunity Program (BTOP) funding, the companies are also offering direct application preparation services to ensure that organizations can meet the looming August 14 deadline. These services are available directly from NetLogix’s site at https://resources.netlogix.com/stimulus.asp, and include:
All of the above services require a one-week turnaround time, so to ensure that your applications or network design reviews can be completed before the August 14 deadline, please sign up at NetLogix’s site immediately before August 7, 2009.
“NetLogix has a long and successful history of preparing technical documentation for broadband networks,” said Eric DaVersa, Vice President of Business Development at NetLogix. “We partner with Proxim because they have a complete end-to-end wireless portfolio, which gives us the freedom to select the right blend of wireless technologies for any given network. No other vendor gives us that flexibility.”
Though there are a large number of different funding opportunities available for the deployment of broadband networks, one common thread in preparing successful applications is the need to show that the requested funds will be used wisely. Wireless has proven time and again to be more cost-effective than the wired alternatives, and as a result many organizations are proposing the use of broadband wireless networks to extend connectivity to rural areas or to deploy wireless video surveillance networks.
For more information on how wireless is more cost-effective than wired technologies for outdoor applications such as rural broadband connectivity and video surveillance, please download the latest Farpoint Group analyst white paper for free at Proxim’s site.

Quantum Networks and Proxim Wireless Partner to Offer Services to Help Organizations Prepare for Next Round of Broadband Stimulus Funding
WiMAX Pioneer Announces Partnership with Proxim Wireless to Deploy 4G WiMax Turnkey Broadband Networks For Rural Operators
Quantum Networks, LLC, (www.quantum-co.com) a global WiMAX service and product provider for the wireless industry, and Proxim Wireless Corporation, a leading manufacturer of end-to-end broadband wireless systems, announced today a partnership to offer a suite of services and products designed to help organizations prepare grant applications for the next round (Round Two) of federal stimulus funding. The partnership will allow rural operators and WISPs to purchase, design and deploy rural broadband networks efficiently and economically.
The partnership between Quantum and Proxim will effectively bridge the broadband service gap between rural and urban America, a service that mirrors the goal of President Obama’s broadband stimulus initiative. The Obama administration allocated over $7 billion to improve broadband access in un-served and underserved U.S. regions under the American Recovery and Reform Act (ARRA). In June 2009, The Rural Utilities Service (RUS) and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) published the official criteria for applicants, inviting Internet service providers to offer advanced broadband in much-needed areas across the nation.
Though the Round One deadline to apply for stimulus grants passed on August 20, many organizations did not have enough time to successfully design a network and prepare their proposals before the deadline. Quantum and Proxim are joining forces to remind rural operators and WISPs that there is still hope for funding, as there will be both a Round Two and Round Three deadline, and funds will continue to be distributed through September 30, 2010. And though the future application deadlines have not been announced, the companies are advising organizations to begin preparations now so that they are prepared for the next deadline.
“We are excited to be working with Proxim Wireless, one of the leading manufacturers of wireless equipment. It gives us the ability to offer our rural clients one of the best equipment solutions in the marketplace,” said Mr. Eytan Wiener, Chief Operating Officer of Quantum Networks. “Our relationship blends the core strengths of both companies, enabling us to offer a ‘one-stop shop’ for operators to deploy quickly, cost-effectively, and with great ease.”
To cost-effectively deliver these rural broadband networks, Quantum will be selling, deploying and installing Proxim equipment to its client base both domestically and internationally.
As a result, Quantum utilizes wireless technologies like Proxim Wireless’ Tsunami™ 8100 series – a recently announced line of products that provide both PtP wireless backhaul as well as point-to-multipoint (PtMP) solutions for cost-effectively delivering broadband to rural communities. Proxim’s Tsunami 8100 products provide true 4G wireless capabilities, with performance of up to 600 Mbps at distances up to 70 kilometers (over 40 miles) with non-line-of-sight (NLOS) functionality. And with Proxim’s end-to-end wireless product portfolio, Quantum can deploy complete networks from wireless backhaul all the way to the delivery of access services.
“This partnership with Quantum is a natural fit, as Quantum is a leading provider of WiMAX services to the rural operator and WISP markets, and our end-to-end wireless solutions are ideal for enabling broadband service to be deployed in those markets cost-effectively,” said Robb Henshaw, Director of Marketing for Proxim Wireless. “Together with Quantum, we want to remind operators and WISPs that there is still plenty of funding available for broadband deployments, but the key to securing that funding is preparation. We’re here to help in that preparation, before the Round Two deadline is even announced, to give organizations the head start they need to establish successful applications.”
For more information on the various broadband funding possibilities available, click here for a FREE download of Proxim’s “Government Grant Resource Guide” under “Stimulus Resources”: http://proxim.com/learn/library/whitepapers/.
“When targeting broadband stimulus funding, it is crucial to illustrate that you intend to utilize those fund in the most fiscally-responsible way possible while delivering necessary service levels,” said Mr. Wiener. “Proxim’s end-to-end wireless platform, and especially its new Tsunami 8100 products, provides an ideal combination of price and performance. As we continue to design and deploy rural broadband networks nationwide, we plan to utilize the Tsunami 8100 products extensively to deliver cost-effective broadband to the underserved.”

DC Access partners with Evolve Property Management, LLC
to offer WiFi at Audubon and Lavenia apartment communities
Local Internet provider now serving more than 15 multi-tenant properties in DC
Washington, DC – In cooperation with Evolve Property Management, LLC, DC Access is now providing Wireless Internet to the Audubon, a 20-unit apartment building at 13th and North Carolina NE, and the Lavenia, a 10-unit building at 6th and F Street NE.
In 2003, DC Access entered into an agreement with Evolve to provide WiFi at a number of multi-tenant buildings, starting with the Barbara. Other Evolve properties served by DC Access include the Pierce School Lofts, Pierce School Annex, and the Marday.
“Partnering with Evolve has allowed us to reach many new subscribers on Capitol Hill,” says Martha Huizenga, partner at DC Access. “Our services are a great fit for multi-tenant buildings, and we’re excited to be working with Evolve to provide local, affordable WiFi to their residents.”
WiFi offers a reliable, always-on broadband connection. “For most tenants, having access to high-speed Internet is no longer viewed as an amenity, but as a requirement,” says Matt Wade, president at DC Access. “Six years ago, Evolve recognized the need for high-speed Internet – and the unique advantages of WiFi as compared to DSL or cable.”
One of those advantages is that WiFi is a perfect choice for historic buildings like those owned and managed by Evolve.
“It’s not historically accurate to have cables running down the hallways or on the building’s exterior,” explains Christopher Swanson, co-owner of Evolve. “With WiFi from DC Access, access points and any necessary wires are nearly invisible, and they place the roof antennas in back and out of sight in order to maintain each building’s historic integrity and curb appeal.”
Through similar partnerships with several other local real estate companies, including Yarmouth Management and Urban Investment Partners, DC Access currently provides WiFi to more than 15 multi-tenant properties in DC.
ABOUT DC ACCESS, LLC
2009 marks the 10th anniversary of DC Access, which is owned and operated by the husband-and-wife team of Matt Wade and Martha Huizenga. DC Access, which is privately held and headquartered on Capitol Hill, is DC’s first and only Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP). DC Access also provides nationwide web hosting and nationwide dial-up. To learn more, visit www.dcaccess.net.
ABOUT EVOLVE PROPERTY MANAGEMENT, LLC

Rapid Link Awarded Approximately $2.8 Million Grant From the California Advanced Services Fund (CASF)
CASF Funding to Accelerate Broadband Services Delivery to Five Counties; Company to Seek Additional Funding Through ARRA Broadband Stimulus Programs
Rapid Link Incorporated (OTC.BB:RPID - News) announced today it has received a grant from the California Advanced Services Fund (CASF) of approximately $2.8 million in matching funds. The grant will support the expansion of Rapid Link’s broadband network footprint as part of its “Mother Lode” project, which will bring advanced broadband services to five counties in Northern California.
The CASF was established by the Public Utilities Commission of the State of California in 2008 to provide matching funds of up to 40% of the total project costs for the deployment of broadband infrastructure in unserved and underserved areas in California. Rapid Link’s application for funding under the CASF was chosen among more than 50 project proposals submitted to the Commission since 2008.
“This funding is a significant milestone in our efforts to bring broadband communications services to more communities, business and homes,” said Chris Canfield, Chief Executive Officer, Rapid Link Incorporated. “Through the CASF program, the State of California has demonstrated its commitment to bridging the digital divide and offering its constituents better access to and better selection of telecommunications services.”
In addition to its networks in California, Rapid Link operates wide-area broadband networks in Georgia, Missouri, Nebraska, and Washington, DC. The Company intends to seek additional funding through the ARRA Broadband Stimulus Program, which includes the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) Broadband Initiatives Program (BIP) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Utilities Service (RUS) Program.
