Open the 6 GHz Band

Our members work hard to ensure the customers in the communities they serve receive quality, high-speed broadband. In order to increase access to broadband and achieve 5G speeds across the country, we need unlicensed use of the 6 GHz band now more than ever to provide rural communities with the connectivity they deserve.

The current supply of unlicensed spectrum is quickly running out. This spectrum shortage not only hinders WISP providers’ ability to expand access to new customers in rural areas, but also limits the speeds and delivery of innovative technologies to existing customers. Opening up the 6 GHz spectrum band for unlicensed use would be a boon to the Wi-Fi economy, as well as for rural WISP providers who need it to deliver broadband to unserved and underserved Americans.

Taken as a whole, this approach would help all players in the broadband ecosystem thrive and would help us – virtually overnight – bridge the rural digital divide.
