WISPA Appreciates FCC Clarification of CAF Testing Procedures
The following quote, concerning the FCC’s approval today of performance testing procedures for carriers receiving Connect America Fund support, may be attributed to Louis Peraertz, VP of Policy for the Wireless Internet Service Providers Association (WISPA):
Washington, DC, October 25, 2019 – WISPA appreciates the extensive engagement with Commission staff, which is reflected in the many improvements to the CAF performance testing regime the FCC adopted today. We are thankful for the Commission’s efforts to revise the Order on Reconsideration to balance the need for rigorous testing with the burdens on CAF recipients to ensure that commitments made to rural consumers are upheld. By adopting a “pre-testing” period, the FCC acknowledges that testing for, and assessing compliance with, speed and latency benchmarks will be a first-time activity for the FCC, USAC and high-cost recipients. With much-needed clarity provided in today’s Order, WISPA’s members that are receiving CAF support can now begin the process of implementing their performance testing solutions.
WISPA’s approximately 800 members are composed of fixed Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs) and the industry that supports fixed wireless broadband, including equipment suppliers, support services, and other components needed to run a successful business. Our members, and WISPs, in general, provide broadband access to over 4 million residential and business customers, often in exclusively rural areas.
