WISPA Proudly Announces Opening of WISPAMERICA ‘19 Convention

Cincinnati, OH, March 19, 2019 – The Wireless Internet Service Providers Association (WISPA) is proud to convene WISPAMERICA ‘19, bringing together service providers, industry experts and leading suppliers in the fixed wireless Internet industry for three days of learning, networking and inspiration.  This year, the event lasts from March 19th thru the 21st at the Duke Energy Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Approximately 2000 WISPs dot the U.S. landscape, providing fixed wireless, high-speed broadband services to more than four million Americans, many of whom reside in rural and remote areas of the country.  The overwhelming majority of WISPS are small businesses with fewer than 1,500 subscribers, having built their networks with their own capital, not federal subsidies.

WISPAMERICA ‘19 features more than 50 interactive sessions, including those covering technical training, business strategies, sales and marketing, human resources and regulatory updates, among others.  In addition to this, the event has over 100 exhibitors, showcasing a wide array of products and services from wireless gear to fiber-optics, tower infrastructure, software, cloud services, VoIP solutions, financing, insurance, mapping services and more.

The annual convention provides important tools to keep WISPA members up to date in the rapidly evolving world of fixed wireless communications.  On Wednesday, attendees will hear a keynote presentation from FCC Commissioner, Brendan Carr, who will discuss Washington’s growing role in regulating the wireless industry, as well as the integral function WISPS play in bridging the digital divide.  Attendees will also hear from policy experts – such as WISPA president, Claude Aiken, and newly hired vice president of government relations, Christina Mason – regarding recent developments on Capitol Hill, which affect the wireless industry.

WISPAMERICA ‘19 also seeks to inspire.  On Thursday, those in attendance will hear from Google’s Preston Marshall – a visionary spectrum access expert, and chair of the Wireless Innovation Forum Steering Group.  His keynote presentation will address how the emergence of high-capacity, shorter-range wireless broadband systems, such as CBRS and 5G, will create new models of broadband deployment that are hybrids of fiber and wireless, rather than choices between fiber and wireless.

“We have so much in this year’s event I can’t wait to get it rolling,” exclaimed Claude Aiken.  “The WISP industry provides innovation on par with any Silicon Valley company, coming up with solutions and answers to connectivity challenges, which are born of necessity from American ingenuity.  I’m glad our members come here year-after-year to learn and share their experiences, making the fixed wireless broadband industry a shining example of what works in broadband here and around the world.”

WISPA is a membership-driven trade association that promotes the development, advancement and unity of the fixed wireless Internet service provider industry. WISPA has over 800 members that support WISPA’s advocacy, education and other collaborative industry initiatives. For more information, visit
