WISPA announces the hiring of Mike Wendy to lead the association’s policy and grassroots communications efforts
Washington, DC, February 25, 2019 – The Wireless Internet Service Providers Association (WISPA) announces the hiring of Mike Wendy to lead the association’s policy and grassroots communications efforts. In this capacity, Mike will work to advance the advocacy of the fixed wireless industry among local and national press outlets, and help its more than 800 members speak effectively to policymakers about the challenges they face bringing high-speed Internet to nearly four million, mainly rural Americans.
Before arriving at WISPA, Mike directed the industry-supported non-profit, MediaFreedom.org, which focused on tech policy, such as broadband deployment, online privacy, intellectual property protection and free speech. Since 1995, Mike has worked in a variety of advocacy and grassroots organizing positions, all within the telecom and IT policy spheres. Prior to this, Mike was a network news technician. He holds a BS in Telecommunication from the University of Florida, and a JD from Catholic University of America. Mike is also a member of the Florida Bar.
Noted WISPA’s president, Claude Aiken, “We’re excited to have Mike and his broad expertise aboard and look forward to building with him a strategic and persuasive communications program for WISPA’s diverse membership.”
WISPA’s approximately 800 members are composed of fixed Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs) and the industry that supports fixed wireless broadband, including equipment suppliers, support services, and other components needed to run a successful business. Our members, and WISPs, in general, provide broadband access to over 4 million residential and business customers, often in exclusively rural areas.
