Fixed wireless day on capitol hill
April 5, 2017
WISPA’s largest-ever event in Washington, DC, was designed to educate policy makers about our sector’s role in expanding access to affordable broadband, especially in rural America and other under-served areas.
Communications Daily called it “the first day of a new phase” for our industry on the Hill, reflecting our stepped-up advocacy efforts.
The day’s activities included:
- A technology expo, featuring displays by equipment makers Cambium Networks, Mimosa, Ubiquiti Networks, and Telrad Networks, as well as operators Rise Broadband and Wisper ISP;
- A luncheon for congressional staff, including a presentation on the technology’s capabilities and WISPA’s policy agenda;
- Numerous one-on-one meetings between company execs and their elected representatives; and
- A well-attended evening reception for policymakers and staff.
Among the VIPs who dropped by one of our events or were visited in their offices by WISPA members were: FCC Commissioner Mignon Clyburn; Reps. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), who chairs the House Subcommittee on Communications and Technology; Mike Bost (R-IL); Bill Flores (R-TX); Bill Foster (D-IL); Bob Latta (R-OH); Dave Loebsack (D-IA); Collin Peterson (D-MN); and Pete Roskam (R-IL); as well as many key staffers for the congressional committees with oversight over rural broadband.
We also held meetings at the FCC with Commissioner Michael O’Rielly and Chairman Ajit Pai’s staff.
WISPA thanks all the industry leaders who took part in this event, as well as the professional staff and outside advisers who brought it all together.
We invite you to join us for Fixed Wireless Day 2018! Working together, we are raising the profile of our industry and advancing our agenda in DC.
