RUS Announces Availability of Broadband Grants and Loans

In two Federal Register publications this month, the Rural Utilities Service announced that it would be accepting applications for the Rural Broadband Access Loans and Loan Guarantees Program, and the Community Connect grant program. These programs make low-cost loans and grants available to construct broadband networks in areas that do not currently have broadband service. More information can be found at the RUS website.

The Wireless Internet Service Providers Association (WISPA) announced today that it has hired its first full-time president and chief executive officer, Claude Aiken, who left the FCC last week as wireline legal adviser to Commissioner Mignon L. Clyburn (TR Daily, March 22). Mr. Aiken will be based in Washington and started his new position today.

S. Jenell Trigg, a Member of Lerman Senter PLLC and a longtime adviser to WISPA, was appointed by FCC Chairman Ajit Pai to serve on the ACDDE Working Group on Digital Empowerment and Inclusion, which that will address new approaches to expanding access to emerging technologies in under-served and under-connected communities. Two other working groups will focus on diversity in broadcasting and in the tech sector.
