About WISPA

WISPA is THE voice of the fixed wireless broadband industry. We represent the entrepreneurs and innovators who deploy fixed wireless technologies to provide fast, affordable broadband internet service in their communities. Our members are small but mighty: local companies that provide their communities with broadband service, oftentimes with their first broadband connection, or effective broadband competition.

WISPA’s approximately 800 members are composed of fixed Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs) and the industry that supports fixed wireless broadband including equipment suppliers, support services, and other components needed to run a successful business. Our members, and WISPs in general, provide broadband access to over 4 million residential and business customers, often in exclusively rural areas.

WISPA Applauds FCC's Proposed OTARD Update, Which Will Help Grow Rural Broadband

Washington, DC, April 12, 2019 – Today, a unanimous FCC initiated a rulemaking proceeding which seeks to update its over-the-air-reception device (OTARD) rule.  Among other things, the Commission is proposing to allow broadband “hubs” – pizza box-sized technology – on private property to serve groups of homes and businesses, helping align OTARD rules with how today’s wireless broadband networks are being built.

WISPA Urges Compromise Approach to H.R. 1644's Title II Policy, One Which Fosters Small Rural Internet Providers' Role in Bridging Digital Divide

Washington, DC, April 10, 2019 – Today, the House passed H.R. 1644, the Save the Internet Act of 2019.  WISPA’s members provide fixed wireless broadband service to millions of rural Americans, and support transparent Internet openness.  While WISPA hopes this action represents the beginning of a bi-partisan process to help further the rollout of high-speed broadband to all Americans, we still remain concerned that re-imposing 85-year-old, Title II telephone regulation on the Internet is inapt for boosting Internet growth.  However, in the House’s efforts to address problems caused by behemoth ISPs, they are in essence building roadblocks for small and rural ISPs to deliver their services to their communities, almost exclusively in un-served and under-served rural America.
