Wireless ISPs, backed up by Google and other advocates of unlicensed spectrum, are mounting an all-out challenge to get the FCC to make changes to its 3.5 GHz NPRM to be voted at the Oct. 24 commissioners’ meeting.

Attached is a summary of the meeting that Mark Radabaugh, Jimmy Carr, and WISPA Council Stephen Coran had on Tuesday with FCC Commissioner O’Rielly and his Chief of Staff.  They pressed the Commissioner on the geographic size of PALs and provided concrete examples of why census tracts are right-sized for rural broadband deployment and PEAs would be disastrous.

Next steps – the FCC will adopt the NPRM at Tuesday’s meeting. Once adopted, Comments will be due 30 days from Federal Register, so that deadline should be around December 1.  WISPA’s DC team is hard at work on our coordinated strategy.

WISPA filed the attached Reply Comments with the FCC concerning the FCC’s proposed eligibility and auction rules for the CAF Phase II auction.

WISPA filed the attached Reply Comments with the FCC today concerning the FCC’s proposed eligibility and auction rules for the CAF Phase II auction.  You will see that we strongly oppose any new eligibility requirements for spectrum-based applicants and any rules that would preclude fixed wireless technology from being eligible to bid for certain performance tiers.  We also propose to relax the FCC’s financial screen and streamline the auction process itself.  Thanks to the FCC Committee for their helpful input.
